Debunking 8 Clear Aligner Myths With Clear Facts

Feeling unsure about clear aligners because of things you’ve heard? We get it. There’s a lot of misinformation out there. So, we’re busting the most common clear aligner myths to help you choose your best smile with confidence.

Myth #1: “You can’t pay for clear aligners with insurance.”

If your dental plan provides orthodontics, you may be able to cover the cost of Motto™  clear aligners through insurance. But even if your plan doesn’t include that coverage, you can pay with credit cards, an HSA or FSA. Plus, we offer easy financing options.

Myth #2: “They’re more expensive than braces.”

Actually. Motto clear aligners are comparable in price to traditional braces. But the real value is in something you don’t see — a mouth full of wire. There’s also value in the fact that brushing and flossing is easier when you don’t have to work around those wires.

Myth #3: “Clear aligners take forever to work.”

Not true. While every case is unique, the average Motto patient completes treatment in less than 6 months.¹ Traditional braces, on the other hand, usually require between 18 and 24 months.

Myth #4: “Teens can’t wear clear aligners. They need braces.”

The days of closed lips smiles in yearbook pictures and Instas are over. As long as your teens have all of their adult teeth, can commit to wearing clear aligners 20 or more hours a day and can keep up with the proper care, Motto is a great choice.

Myth #5: “Clear aligners stain and get dirty.”

With Motto treatment, you’ll replace your aligner trays every few weeks. So, as long as you keep up with daily cleaning and you remove them for eating and drinking, your clear aligners will stay clear.

Myth 6#: “You’ll speak with a lisp.”

As with any new thing that takes up space in your mouth, clear aligners take some getting used to. You may notice a mild lisp at first. This is normal, and means your aligners are doing their job. But most Motto patients find it goes away within a day or two.

Myth #7: “Clear aligners are a pain to maintain.”

Motto clear aligners are easy to remove and clean. All you’ll have to do is give your aligners a quick brush with a soft-bristled toothbrush when you brush your teeth. For a deep clean, soak them for five minutes in hydrogen peroxide.

Myth #8: “Braces are more effective than clear aligners.”

This is a big myth. Clear aligners are just as effective as braces in treating all types of misaligned bites. Motto’s advanced scanning and technology makes it possible to move your teeth in an extremely precise way for more predictable results. And bonus: clear aligners are easier to clean than braces. That means better oral hygiene for you.
